Año muy, pero muy importante para Bill. Contaba ya con 29 años.
La fotografía lo dice todo.......Año 1958, se inicia contacto con Miles Davis, con mutua admiración y así comienzan sus colaboraciones que cambiarán la historia del Jazz.
Un 17 de Mayo de 1958 en New York, en el Café Bohemia, se produce la primera grabación de ambos músicos, junto a John Coltrane, Paul Chambers y Philly Jo Jones, conformando el Quinteto de Miles.
El día 26 del mismo mes se graba una sesión de estudio, pero con Jimmy Cobb en la batería y se les une Cannonball Adderley en alto, completando el sexteto histórico.
Más tarde el 25 de Junio participan ambos en un album de Michel Legrand para la Columbia.
Luego graban su actuación en el Newport Jazz Festival el 3 de Julio, en el Freebody Park, en esta ocasión conformando el sexteto que en Marzo de 1959 haría historia con la grabación del album Kind Of Blue.
Finalmente el 9 de Setiembre grabaría el mismo sexteto en el Hotel Plaza, en el Edwardian Room.
Esas son las 5 sesiones en que colaboraron juntos en 1958.
Se destacan ese año tanbién sus colaboraciones con el alto Cannonball Adderley en dos albumes, uno con Art Farmer y otro con Chet Baker.
El registro numerado con 38, se trata de un album en que Chet Baker hizo un esfuerzo por introducir al cantante Johnny Pace, pero con poca fortuna. El registro sonoro lo obtuve, pero no lo consideré, pues existen serias dudas que Bill hubiera participado en las grabaciones y si lo realizó, en los datos que obtuve habría estado compartiendo tracks con el pianista que es citado como el oficial, Joe Berle.
Para Bill el año 1958 se transformó en un hito importante, ya que aparte del contacto con Miles, grabó su segundo album como leader de un trío, con Sam Jones en el bajo y Philly Jo Jones en la batería. Se tituló " Everybody Digs Bill Evans", en el cual se escucha su maravilloso tema Peace Piece que se mantendría como uno de sus mayores logros de su carrera. Debieron pasar 15 meses desde su primer album en el formato trío. Comenzará así la evolución de Bill en éste formato, para ir transformándose con el tiempo en su mayor aporte al mundo del Jazz.
